day 252 of 365: Mike’s Making Gains

Today’s session with my long-time client and friend, Mike, was just what I needed to forget about the heat here in ATX and get fired up for the day!  This guy is amazing!  I’ve made plenty of posts about this stud like THIS ONE…so I will skip the long story of his success and let you know that Mike used to be 200+ pounds, and was barely able to perform a decent air squat.  To say the least, he was pretty deconditioned – and he knew it.  That’s why I was stoked to work with him.  He knew he needed to get his shit together and was willing to do whatever it took.

“I was 230ish pounds.  I was diabetic, testing my sugar five times a day – it’s been 18 months since I’ve had to be tested.  I had high cholesterol and was on Lipitor, which I’ve been off of for over a year – my cholesterol is fine now.
I have doubled my life insurance and paying half the cost that I was two years ago, gone from a 37 inch waistline to 31 inch, and you don’t even want to know about my libido!”

Long story short, we’ve made gradual but consistent results in the areas of work capacity, strength, mobility.  So much so that Mike is in the best shape he’s been since his boxing career.

Today, Mike broke through a major benchmark:  A 200lb Box Squat!!!  This is the most he’s ever squatted….EVER!  Needless to say, he was pretty pumped, but I think I was more excited than he was….and, as you can probably tell, I’m still stoked about it.  Hahaha!  That’s a big f#cking deal, baby!

Now, unfortunately, I don’t have the footage of the actual squat.  That would’ve been a little risky, given the fact that it was a 1-RM attempt.  What I do have is a picture(above) of what we did today and a clip of Mike knocking out a badass sandbag SWOD.

I can’t tell you what an honor it’s been working with you.  You’ve been a “dream client” that makes my job and life better.  Thank you for your never-ending work ethic and dedication to become better than you were yesterday.  Here’s to more BIG results to come!!!
