I had the urge to knock out some exercises that I haven’t done it quite some time. Things like incline DB press superset with heavy t-bar rows, narrow stance back squats super set with glute-ham raises, then finished up with leg extensions superset with tricep extensions. It may sound goofy as hell, but it was refreshing to hit these old school body building classics.
As y’all know, my priorities have shifted since wrapping up the 2012 Games season. I have been focusing on building lean mass and overall strength and power rather than dialing in on MetCon-style workouts. That being said, I definitely get my heart rate up every session….It just doesn’t feel like a workout if you’re not a breathing hard, sweating, possibly a bit dizzy – you know what I mean.
Anyway, my point in posting all of this is not to blabber on about my training, but to possibly get you thinking about yours. Have you checked in with yourself recently to make sure that what you have been doing is still what you want to be doing? If it is…great! If not, make the change!
It’s important that we not shut the door on other forms of training. They all have something to offer. You’ve just got to be in-tune enough to realize what it is that you really want! BOOM!
